The Scholastic Book Fair entitled "Under the Sea" will be March 23-27th in the Parish Center at School. Hours of operation are 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. A "Bring someone Special" to lunch event is scheduled for Monday afternoon. Bookfair will also be open for the last Lenten Fish Fry this Friday evening.
A special "THANK YOU" to our St. Mary Catholic School Boosters Organization who works so hard throughout the year to provide guidance & direction with our Sports programs. Congratulations to the following St. Mary Catholic School students who recently competed in the Regional Spelling Bee Competition held at Marietta High School March 13th. Representing St. Mary Catholic were 5th grader, Hannah Archer, 6th grader, John Barry Wharff & 8th grader, Gabriela Martinez. Hannah place 3rd in the Competition & Gabby placed 12th. What an excellent representation of our dedicated students & their spelling abilities. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS!
Catholic Schools Week to be celebrated nationwide Jan. 25-31; to be celebrated April 12-18 in Steubenville Diocese
National Catholic Schools Week is a yearly celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Held in January, annually, this year's nationwide celebration is Jan. 25-31, however, this year the Diocese of Steubenville will observe the special week the week of April 12-18. Due to several years of weather related cancellations, Bishop Monforton made the change to eliminate havoc with scheduled events. The theme of National Catholic Schools Week is "Catholic Schools:Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service." Stay tuned for fun, faith & fellowship related activities for our school in April!
Thank you to those who attended our Open House on March 18th. We welcomed several guests & shared the wonderful Academic Education that St. Mary Catholic School has to offer. We continue to be in the registration & enrollment period for the 2015-2016 Academic year. We are currently collecting children's books to be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Organization associated with our Basilica. The St. Vincent de Paul organization enjoys giving books to children of the families that they may be assisting. There is a box outside the office door for book collections. This will be an ongoing project thoughout the 2014-2015 School Year.
Congratulations to 4 spectacular St. Mary Teachers who received "Years of Service Awards" at the Diocesan All School Teachers Mass & meetings today. Mrs. Paula Sewell, 4th Grade Teacher was recognized for 30 Years of Service, Mrs. Rita Angel, Principal & Mrs. Cathy Dunaway, 5th Grade were awarded 15 Years of Service & Jocelyn Smith, Kindergarten teacher received her 10 year award! Congratulations to these outstanding educators who represent St. Mary School with their remarkable dedication!

Congratulations to our Montessori Teacher, Mrs. Sylvia Rajakaruna who was nominated & featured in the weekend edition of The Marietta Times as a recipient of the Gem of the Valley Award. Mrs. Sylvia has taught the Montessori approach of guided freedom through learning preschool program for 40 years & we are excited & happy for her dedication & deserving nomination!
Congratulations Mrs. Sewell, March WTAP Jan Dills Golden Apple Award Winner
Long time St. Mary 4th grade teacher Paula Sewell was presented with the WTAP Golden Apple Award at an all school assembly on Tuesday. Representatives from WTAP, Jan Dills Attorneys at Law, and Baker & Baker Jewelers presented Mrs. Sewell with a golden apple bracelet, plaque, and gift certificate. The award is given to a teacher in the Mid-Ohio Valley from online nominations.
